Medical Detox and Stabilization

Addiction recovery is seldom a linear process. It can take many turns. Perhaps you have never reached out before, but know things need to change. Or maybe you’ve been through a full treatment program before and now are struggling again. Regardless of where you are, it’s likely you need to clear the intoxicants from your system to get a fresh start. That’s where we can help.

At Stepping Stone Center for Recovery, we provide medical detoxification and stabilization treatment to get you on the path to sobriety. Our short-term stabilization program is more than just detox though. We believe in healing the whole person. The medical and clinical team will not only provide a safe, 24/7 medically-supervised detoxification, they will also administer thorough examinations and assessments to identify any additional physical or psychiatric issues that may need to be addressed. Once the team understands your unique struggles, they will create a comprehensive aftercare treatment plan so you feel confident to successfully continue your sobriety.

The medical detox and stabilization program is just the beginning of your recovery.

We’ll start you on the right path with medical support and an introduction to (or refresher if you’ve been through a residential facility before) psychoeducational therapies, such as 12-step groups, psychoeducation groups, and expressive therapies. Throughout your short stay (typically 10-15 days) with us, you’ll be closely monitored by our full-time physicians, psychiatrists, and nurses as well as start participating in therapy groups. You’ll also be provided with nutritious meals and snacks prepared by our full-time chef and dietary team to help properly fuel your body for recovery.

Case Management – Our Case Management services offer coordination of care and recommendations on lifestyle changes and preventive maintenance for your newfound sobriety. Our case managers work with you to address and resolve logistics around issues such as court dates, Family and Medical Leave Act benefits, and any other necessary details to allow you to focus on your detox treatment. The multidisciplinary team at Stepping Stone Center for Recovery will work with you, your family and the referring professional(s) to set up follow-up services such as a partial hospitalization/intensive outpatient program, an individual therapist, or family counseling as necessary.

Continued Support After You Leave

You’ll need various people in your support network as you continue your recovery journey after leaving Stepping Stone Center for Recovery. During your treatment, you’ll be connected with an Alumni Coordinator and Certified Recovery Coach. You will have continued access to this individual for as long as you need. Additionally, you’ll have an entire Alumni Support Community you can reach out to.

We Offer a Medically-Monitored, Safe Environment for:

Alcohol Detox – Detox from alcohol is severe enough to cause life-threatening symptoms. We utilize appropriate medications for a safe and comfortable detox. Medications used to reduce alcohol craving and reduce the risk of relapse include Naltrexone and Campral. Other medications can reduce the positive reinforcing effects of alcohol such as Antabuse.  All these medications have no abuse potential.  Our medical team may use these medications on an individual basis for detox and stabilization.

Opioid Detox (Opiates, prescription pain medication, heroin) — The use of MAT is generally associated with opioid agonists (medications that stimulate opioid receptors in the brain) to treat patients with Opioid Use Disorder. Medications such as Suboxone and Buprenorphine are examples of MAT used to treat Opioid Use Disorder. If you are diagnosed with an Opioid Use Disorder, our physicians and nurses may start you on Suboxone/Buprenorphine or help you maintain the correct dosage of Suboxone/Buprenorphine if you are already benefitting from this treatment.

Some medications are used to block the reinforcing effects of opioids, such as Naltrexone and Naloxone. Naltrexone is one example of MAT that is used in the detox and stabilization program.

Stimulant Drug Detox (cocaine, methamphetamine, Ritalin, Adderall) – Depending on the type, the frequency of use and quantity took, drug detox affects individuals differently. We understand that detox can be extremely uncomfortable, even painful, so we use proven medications to counteract any symptoms. Medications used to reduce stimulant drug craving and reduce the risk of relapse may include use of the antidepressant, Wellbutrin. We utilize this medication on an individual basis in the stabilization program.

Understanding Medical Detox Treatment

Depending upon the amount and frequency of use, an individual with a drug or alcohol problem may require medically supervised detoxification. It is recommended that detoxification take place in an accredited and licensed medical detox treatment center. While there are a variety of places to go for detox treatment, such as a regular hospital setting, the most comprehensive services are offered in a center with expertise in delivering safe, medical detox with 24/7 on-site physicians, psychiatrists, and nurses trained in addiction.

This allows you to get the expert medical attention required, begin to understand the disease of addiction with psychoeducational groups and leave with a solid aftercare plan designed specifically for your on-going needs. It also allows dual diagnosis treatment to address any mental health disorders, such as bipolar, anxiety, or personality disorders. We know that by addressing every aspect of your whole health and providing a plan for you to keep moving forward, you’ll have the tools achieve long-term sobriety.
