Sex Addiction Creates Complications
The past couple of weeks everyone has been discussing the movie Shame. Shame is about a man who suffers from sex addiction. The film does not glorify sex addiction but gives the viewer the perspective of an addict who is struggling with a true addiction. Everything that comes along with drug and/or alcohol addiction is also demonstrated in the main characters escapades and he is trapped by his addiction. The bondage that any addiction creates is very real. Non-addicts get angry with addicts overlooking the disease aspect of their problem. Alcoholism and drug addiction is the only disease that there is very little compassion for in society. Sex addiction seems to propose a more complicated twist to the term addiction. It seems to create the same level of distrust and discomfort in family and friends as drug and alcohol addiction, if not worse. Addiction in any form is lethal and needs to be addressed as a life or death situation.
