Treatment for Depression at Stepping Stone’s Drug Rehab Center
Individuals at Stepping Stone Center who suffer from depression in addition to their addiction will have a dually diagnosed treatment plan that combines psychological, medical, and substance abuse elements.
Psychological counseling is a large component of depression treatment that includes individual, group, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Cognitive behavioral therapy addresses cognitive aspects of depression, specifically the self-defeating behaviors typical in afflicted individuals. CBT aims to change patient behavior and reactions to certain situations. Psychological treatment can help those suffering from depression learn how to cope with everyday stresses in healthy ways, while getting over self-defeating behavior.
Pharmacological therapy, or treatment with medication, is another important part of depression treatment. A medical professional may prescribe antidepressants such as Paxil or Prozac. Depending on the severity of a patient’s symptoms, medication may be needed to regulate healthy chemical levels in a patient’s brain. These levels control mood and behavior. Many find that the symptoms of depression are lessened or eliminated entirely.
At Stepping Stone Center for Recovery, we believe that a combination of psychological and pharmacological therapies and drug and alcohol rehab treatment is the best approach to treating a client’s addiction and depression.
