AMC’s “Breaking Bad” has taken the nation by storm. The show has offers a glimpse into the dark and gritty world of crystal meth. Creator Vince Gilligan created a story and characters that are complex and frightening and crystal meth is at the center of it all. Art Imitating Life From the beginning of the series in 2008, we have seen the characters develop into completely different people. The twists and turns each of the characters has made have not been all positive. The driving force for all their changes has been crystal meth. We have seen Walter White, the main character of the show, go from a mild-mannered high school chemistry teacher to a cold-blooded drug lord. Crystal meth has destroyed his once happy family, turning spouses against each other and breaking relationships. The lives of all family members are endangered, including the children.

The “Breaking Bad” Effect

Although “Breaking Bad” gives the audience a look into the destruction of lives and families, it still does not show all the gory details of the dangers of crystal meth. The fact remains the real life is a lot more frightening than what is seen on the television. The meth epidemic sweeping the country is taking the lives of men, women, and children. “Breaking Bad” has shown us that drugs can impact people from all walks of life. It brought attention to a growing problem. Now that the show is coming to an end this season, perhaps there will be more action taken to create more rehabs, treatment modalities and public awareness about crystal meth addiction.
